Berlin, the capital city and one of sixteen states of Germany, is a major center in European politics, culture, media, and science.

It is the third most visited tourist destination in the EU. On June 27, 1967, Berlin became Los Angeles' 6th sister city with the committee's mission to advance the relationship between the two prominent cities: culturally, intellectually, commercially and socially. The committee has cooperated with many other German-American organizations and participated in the 50th Anniversary of the Berlin Airlift in 1998 (Berlin) and 1999 (Los Angeles).
