SALVADOR, BRAZIL

Salvador’s history dates back to 48 years before its foundation, with the discovery of Todos os Santos (All Saints) Bay in 1501 and served as a prominent port in the salve trade since the middle of the 16th century.

The city was founded in 1549 by Tomé de Souza, the Portuguese governor of Brazil, and it was the first capital until 1763. The population is formed by the same mixture of ethnic groups that mark the base of the Brazilian people: Blacks, Indians, and Europeans. Today, African culture influences religion, arts, food, and other aspects of Salvadorian life.
